Mendeley Data Blueprints

Project

mindfulness

I lead the design for Mendeley Data, growing a team and also improving accessibility. iteratively improving the experience and also driving research into how the overall product worked. This was work to support the long term product strategy and future function requirements.

Method

service_toolbox

We worked closely with academic and industry researchers as we improved the Mendeley Data service. All sessions and usability testing of prototypes included consistent user research questions that allowed us to build up tasks, needs and the interactions between different user types both on and off the service.

Outcome

Elevation

  • As we explored different options these diagrams allowed design to create solutions that could deal with future features.

  • These diagrams made our users visible and allowed product and engineering to better understand the importance of key scenarios.

  • We used the object model to create prototypes showing how other research data types could be integrated and lead to improvements.

This diagram refines and retells the understood relationship between data, research and data publishing while bringing in related roles.

We explored the journeys for different users for different scenarios

From the research we could build up an object model for Mendeley Data

The object model was further expanded into a mental model

This work fed into the Mendeley Data service.
