Service Audit
Project
mindfulness
The Sky+ experience had evolved over the years to become a chaotic creature and, as part of my work on the Electronic Programme Guide, we were keen to get an idea of the whole system and spot ways to improve things.
Method
service_toolbox
This was really about using internal knowledge and spending time going through the dark corners of the set-top box experience. I focused on the main tasks carried out by users and created a language to communicate button presses.
Outcome
Elevation
Clarity over how chaotic the Sky+ box had become
Adding momentum to the Sky Q project.
A project to look to explore the feasibility of removing Sky+ box features.
A set of blueprints that lead to improvements for the experience of the Satellite box
Increased understanding of design issues across the team, for example less use of unusual and hard to understand button combinations.
This Universe diagram show the different services provided Sky+, both on and off the set top box.
The audit included a detailed break down of how the screen was used through out the Sky+ STB experience.
Over years the use of the remote control and strange button combinations had lead to some very complex interactions.
Key user journeys were explored. A separate document summed up the usability recommendations.
